    Interesting Concept - Arsenal

    All,

This Kickstarter seems to be getting a great deal of buzz - Arsenal.

Avoiding any discussion on the merits or problems with Kickstarter, I wonder about this product. I have heard some podcast feature this product and promote it as something that alleviates you of the "technical" decisions and allows you to focus on the creative side. I can see that Marketing Slogan and think they do have an innovative product.

Any thoughts on the equipment and the validity in the market? Just opening for a bit of discussion.

I've got to wonder whether the retail price tag of $250 is too steep for mass-market adoption.

Why not set camera completely to auto, about the same thing, only cheaper. You get what the device decides what it wants not what you want.

I like making all of the choices. I'm no techie but it seems to me that he has created a better computer for my cameras auto gold setting. I don't use auto gold. I can't see me using his product.

I'm just waiting for the innovative product to come along that allows you to operate your smartphone remotely

Seriously, I can't think of any advantage it would give me for the shooting I do out in the field.

    P.S. I don't have a smart phone

For me it is a pretty salty price tag - even at the KS price. Not to mention I am not sure if it is EU freindly (i.e. No VAT)

I have listened to the designer on a few PodCasts and it seems to me that it is a bit of a struggle to justify this to a more experienced photographer. The main items for the more experienced photographer appear to be ability to view your time lapse as it is being collected in camera. Seems useful, but not totally necessary.

Like others I enjoy making the decisions based on what I want to convey and the scene in front of me, it is part of the journey.

I may end up missing a shot because I did not have the right or enough exposures, but in the end I learn more from my mistakes then success.

It can determine THE [my emphasis] optimal settings for the scene you're shooting. Next it fine tunes those settings using 18 different environmental factors.
Silly me. I thought there were lots of settings one could use for many images, to get the impression one wants.

    So,

it's a phone app which makes yer camera fully auto? Wasn't Canon first tae do that 40 years ago ? Without the phone?

Furore aside, most camera apps on phones cost between £1.99 - £4.99. Apart from the cash rich, who always want new, shiny, fashionable (aye, ah'm talking about you Leica owners)...... cannae see a market...

PS ah got a remote camera control with ma 10yo DSLR, still never used it...and it was free...
