    Photography Equipment Sales

What does it even mean, to me it just means that the photography is still popular, I read comments where mirrorless cameras accounted for most of the growth but does it make a difference; the positive behind the statistic is that if the consumer has a need for gear luckily it is available.

To help breakdown how statistics were calculated.

These graphs are not particularly interesting unless you are tracking monthly shipments and are really don't tell us what is happening over longer periods. Not only that, but shipments don't give us sales information. These products might simply be sitting on store shelves. The spikes are likely related to new product introductions as significant product has to be shipped and be on hand for the product release date (i.e. "filling the product launch pipeline"). I have seen products where 80% of the annual sales occur within the first 30 - 60 days of the launch. It can take several months of production to produce enough product volume to fill the product launch pipeline.

What would be of interest is the sales trends, rather than the raw monthly shipment numbers and the global trends (i.e. 3 - 5 years). With a mature product like the digital camera, people are skipping one or even two product launch cycles simply because the improvements between models is not noticeable enough to upgrade.
