First one is a Syrphus ribesii hoverfly. They have suddenly arrived in large numbers here, particularly males which are tricky to identify.
I would guess the weevil is a Green Nettle Weevil with some of those reflective green scales worn off.
The damselfly is a Banded Demoiselle male.
And finally one of those difficult black flies which I tend to leave alone. Could be one of the Flesh Flies but other angles are required even to reach family level.

Very nice set Geoff. The beetle for me as well. This year, the garden seems to be devoid of insect life. I am beginning to think that our being near to the M6 is taking its toll.

Les, .... you have been busy, I'm guessing that with the heat of the last few days, they were particularly active, making it that bit more difficult to capture.Very nice!

You're spot on James lots of damselflys etc but they just would not keep still lots of clegs though i did get some good shots though
