Kay, the lighting in the first is very cool, but I like the second shot better. It feels more dynamic with the windmill at an angle, and gives a greater sense of the sweep and size of the fields. And the clouds in the background add to the scene.

I think you're missing a tool, Tim. Where's the hammer? How can you fix anything without a hammer?

Lake Barrine looks beautiful, Grant. Very quiet and cool. Could cropping a little of the right side focus attention on the lake a bit? Or do you want equal focus on lake and foliage, which is quite nice?

Brilliant shot, Pat: perfect color palette. Well captured.

More wonderful colors, Stan. Excellent handling of the colors against the sky. The splash of light on the one group of leaves in the front is great.

Have another look Rick… running across the bottom of the pic, from the right corner to the left-hand side of the red pliers, you can see a strip of wood... that is the shaft of the hammer, and on far left, the blue thing just under the meter’s red probe, is the metal head of the hammer

I do like the fence in the left foreground, Mel. Parallel to the crossing, it draws the eye out to the other shore. It's a nice shot as is, I think, and the exposure is done well, too.

Great moon shot, Dave. Any reason not to go to a slower shutter speed and lower the ISO? Is that to keep the distortion from atmosphere down?

Beautiful shot, Rob. It reminds me of Ansel Adams' Jeffrey Pine. You got to just the right angle, with the tree cutting at the level where the sky changes density.

Great composition, Peter. I like the dissonance of the gothic feel of the tower, bridge, and moon, with the blue sky. It makes it sort of "reality gothic," makes it feel as if it's really in times past.

Beautiful brook, Steve. It's a great fall capture, with the grasses still tall and green, but the leaves showing fall colors: a wonderful story of summer hanging on.

I can feel the peace an serenity and hear the gentle lapping of the water coming up the beach.

There might, of course, be about 5000+ people just out of shot on the left. But your skills have conveyed a story and sense of place to me.

And because of the strong line between water and trees in the upper part of the frame, the picture can carry the old tree running right across the centre.

Thanks, Donald. I tried different crops, but this one felt best. I think you've explained why: that blue patch divides the image, and the log is at two-thirds of the foreground segment, while the top of the line of trees is at one-third of the background segment. What attracted me to the shot was the parallel lines of trees, shoreline, water, and log. I didn't see the layered thirds.

It was a gem of a day, and not insanely crowded. I do envy you folks who get to the water regularly.

Thanks Rick. These large gulls have a reputation for being rather fierce and wary of people. But on the quayside they become quite tame and easy to approach.

When I was a full time fisherman, I had one which regularly sat on the foredeck a couple of feet from where I was working and would take food from my hand.

I have two lime trees, one lemon tree, two tangerine trees and two orange trees on my property. Additionally two avacado trees, a nectarine and two apricot trees.

You need a high shutter speed for moon shots to counter the earth/moon movement

I'm going to go back and try this one again to improve the symmetry. You can see the idea of the lines but I need to reposition myself next time. Hopefully next week, there'll be an improved version.

It's pretty good, but yes, you need to swing more to the left. It looks a little blown on the highlights, so perhaps use centre-weighted metering? If you have Photoshop you can alter the tilt in 'lens correction' but you will lose some of the shot so you need to shoot it wider to allow for that.
