    Wine & Guitar

The guitar is my friend's Martin D-35.

    Setup
The background is black foam core. A medium continuous-light lamp is behind the scene and shining toward a white wall further behind the scene. That light is redirected by the wall around all sides of the background to create the bright highlights in the glass. A flash light lights the guitar from the left front area.

Mike, you have done something different here. No subtle shades anywhere and the background is plain. It works for me because it is surprising.

Hi Mike: The lines and angles are superb! Pairing these two subjects is quite original and creative.

Thanks for the nod, Suzan, especially about the lines and angles!

    I like it.

As I read through your explanation of the lighting, I kept thinking: but there's a light shining on the front of the guitar. But then I came to your final sentence and all became clear!

Mike, I like the pic of the wine glass; however if you had not related that it was placed with a guitar, I may have had a difficult time identifying it as a guitar. Maybe it is just me.

    Re: Wine & Guitar

Thank you to Bruce and Bruce! (Not often I get to write that. Ha!)

Bruce (Digital): The image displays the guitar's sound hole, pick guard, all strings, saddle, bridge and sound board. I'm reasonably confident that anyone with at least a mild interest in musical instruments would probably recognize it as a guitar. I made the image mostly for my friend who owns the guitar and I'm certain he would recognize it on its own with no need for any hints.

I came back to this image several times without knowing what to write about it although I like the image I think what I most like are the curves and the tones in the image. That's why my eyes go to the right of the frame immediately when I look at it. Nice combination of curves and tones

    Re: Wine & Guitar

Thanks for that information about your specific reaction, Binnur. It's also the bright curves on the right side that are the main appeal and grounding of the composition for me. When I first envisioned the composition, I planned on the entire glass being between the saddle and the end of the guitar. I settled on the current composition because I found it a lot more interesting, especially the refraction of the end of the guitar caused by the glass and the reflection of the end of the guitar in the top of the wine.
