    Backswimmer in a private pool

Well the pool is actually a horse trough.

    Backswimmer in a private pool

Backswimmer water beetle (Notonecta sp) 'rowing' with its back legs as it rests upside down in the water. Several of them there and they kept diving down to the bottom of the tank.

A bit tricky with flash causing reflection in the water and a bit of debris floating on the surface; but I thought this shows a different kind of insect.

Nicely done Geoff, one I have tried and failed to get a satisfactory image of - a good balance of flash and natural light. Difficult to see the 'surface', on one leg there is a slight ring showing a break in the surface ( I think ) but maybe emphasis it a bit more ? but maybe not - it stands as it is, a good image of a fascinating creature

I did not know that is what it is called. From the title, I thought it was a human doing a backstroke
BTW, it is well exposed and sharp. I have tried shooting this a number of times, but not good enough to show

Thanks for the comments. There were quite a few rejects because they kept moving around just as I was focusing.

Here is another one which is eating a small Ichneumon Wasp which had fallen into the water. You can just make out a wing and the antennae.

I thought you were joking and captured a dead bug then called it a backswimmer...didn't know it is real until I saw Mark's comments...sorry ignora-bug here...I haven't seen one before. It is a sharp shot though...and then understanding the next shot of that bug eating another bug...

'Back to bed. Not helpful here at CiC at all...
