Thanks for your comment, Steven. I, too, think the image would be better without the out-of-focus, thick rope. I tried to clone it out but, with my very poor post-processing skills, I thought the image I posted was better than the one I unsuccessfully worked on in Photoshop.

Thanks, Binnur, for your kind comment. I totally agree with you about the the distracting item in photo #1. The item is actually a thick, braided rope that the gorillas, particularly the younger ones, use to climb to higher areas of their enclosure. I do not have even mediocre post-processing skills in cloning out large items from photos, and I do not enjoy doing post-processing work. I'd rather spend time taking more photos than post-processing images. I have been, however, taking more time to compose my photos to minimize distracting background material. In this case, I should have spent more time in composition You and others might have noticed that some of my images are very tightly cropped. In most cases the crop was to remove a distracting object near the main subject. The pelican photo is an example of this. (I was about 2.5 ft -- just over 76 cm -- away from the resting bird and took the shot I could get, thinking that I might not get another opportunity to get that close to a pelican.)

I understand what you mean Randy...Quite a while back I just decided to do some basic Camera Raw enhancement. Sometimes I will do just one more -- in Viveza. I got so used to my laziness in Post Processing, it later dawned on me when I decided to go back to do something different, I had forgotten how to do what I wanted for my shots to look at and scrambled and researched something so easy, it can takes the monkey out of me (pun not intended). Tidying a shot is sometimes a pain in the behind especially when you do not have a choice of angle to remove distractions. And when this happens, then perhaps the only solution is to incorporate the environment with the shot? maybe? -- then you create a story with it instead...???

Thanks, Izzie. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who doesn't enjoy post-processing. I'm pleased with the image of the pelican. I was able to get his eye on one of the "compositional rule of thirds" lines, I think the feather detail is good, and I like the curvature of the bird's neck nestled under the pouch of its lower bill. I was crouched down almost at eye level with the bird, and I wanted to fill the frame with as much of this bird as I could, there being other pelicans resting and moving around near my subject and a large concrete planter close to the tip of its beak.
