Not a very pretty or exotic bird, but looked nice this morning, when it found the only sunny spot on the fence.

    Another Tropical Plant

Looks like I am first cab off the rank again. I think it is to do with the fact that we don't have daylight saving in Queensland (thank goodness) and it is now close to my bedtime. Pretty busy today, so I did not venture further than my garden for this PAD.
Here is a picture of Strongylodon macrobotrys or Jade Vine. It is a native of the Philippines and has, as you can see, a very striking colour. It covers a large tree in our yard and fairly drips with these huge racemes every October.

You beat me by 2 minutes, Kay. Looks like you have a Spotted Turtle Dove on your verandah. An introduced species.

    Terry

    Another quayside character

    Day 18: October 2010 PAD

Terry worked all his life as a fisherman until it became too physically demanding; then he found employment in a boatyard.

ps. Yes he does have legs - he is standing in a dinghy alongside the fishing boat.

Yep, that's minimalist. Reminded me of 'Three Stones' (B&W) which I was looking at on your website earlier today. Still think it's your best. I love it.

    Bourne End Biker Bandit

Drove to London in the dark, worked, and came home in the dark . I needed a PAD photo so wandered out into my village and found a group of lads, down a dark alley, messing about on their bikes. Friendly lot...they invariably are if you treat them with respect and they did a few tricks for me. They wanted to be posted as "The Bourne End Biker Bandits".

    Sea legs presumably ?
Is he the Artful Dodger named on the bouy?
Lovely colours and a very relaxed feel to the shot, obviously they are used to having your camera pointing at them by now.. I like it.

I take a lot of sky shots simply because I like the variability. Today the weather people forcasted heavy clouds and rain. This was not one of the 90% of the time when they are 10% right. We had some very thin clouds followed by this. The nearly straight line whisps look like "mares tails" but it looks like they are being fired out of the little cumulous.

Maybe a bit of a stretch, but that's what I'm reminded of.

Hi Dave, it is a Spotted Turtle Dove.

Sorry Mark, I was reading in order of posts and then noticed you had named this one.

Re: Day 18: Back in the City Again

Back from my trek to The Little Desert.

I have been waiting on this canvass print for some time. On my recent trip to Noosa I took this panorama (4 shots) of the Noosa River. My mate loves it up there wanted a copy for his daughter's upcoming birthday. She lives up river a bit.

    Don't let go!

Ok, I confess, I'm a bit of a cheat as this was shot on Day 17, but it is a different subject matter (i.e. not a bird)

I shot a lot of this pair, from different angles, but I under estimated the DoF required and most are useless (one or other being very o.o.f.), this is about the best I could find.

That's actually a huge post they're on and it was vertical, but in a portrait orientation, it seemed to result in a lot of neck twisting, so I rotated it.

I'll try to actually take a shot on Day 19

    Cheers,
