A very sharp image and very nice b/w conversion. The only problem for me is the background and to a certain extent that is out of your hands. The background is very distracting even more so the fact that it is not quite blurred enough to dismiss. It is a real shame because the quality of the main subject is excellent.

PS: I love the horse's baseball cap...very Nordic

Thanks for your comment Steve. You are right the background is a major problem for this picture and for many of jumping pictures. Exifs of this picture are 200mm f2.8. That's a lens that I use rarely for jumping contest as it does not blurr enough background. I prefer generallly 85 mm f1.8. The obstacle was providing good attitudes for portraits of riders.

I hope that you don't mind me messing with your image, but it seems to me that a tighter crop would remove most of the distracting background and focus more attention on the rider.

Hi Thierry - Richard's crop looks a good solution to the background, although I note that the rider and horse are very well defined against the background. So, a selection of the subject would look easy n this case, allowing a blurring of the the rest of the image.

BTW, good stirrup feet.

Wow so sharp! i love the intensity in the rider's face. Honestly i like the pre crop shot better. I feel like the background helps give it some extra context.
