A Right Telling Off...

I was out shooting in my local park, a place often dominated by crows. As anyone familiar with them will testify to, they are a raucous bunch, particularly so when they are wound up over something. This time one individual incurred the wrath of what I presume was an elder, who launched into a long and vociferous tirade on the unfortunate miscreant. I shot the result and, and while perhaps my imagination or an attempt to anthropomorphise, the victim of this looks particularly sheepish and miserable...

I know crows are very smart but never been able to perceive any close details because of their all-black livery. It makes them a royal pain to try to photograph as well!

Very nicely done Trev. As Geoff says, plenty of fine feather detail - which is not easy with these. The spot of red at the "hinge" of the beak in the right side one is a bonus.

Well seen and captured Trev. I wonder if the one on the right could be a juvenile begging for food. As its closest to the camera but looks to be the smaller of the two. The red at the junction of its upper and lower beak seem like the colouring young birds have which act as an additional (the wide open beak being the other) aiming point for adults at feeding time.

Ah, so the "conversation" MIGHT be something like... "You call that a meal!!? What a pathetic effort!!! I WANT MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I understand what you mean about the target concept. I was trying out the performance of some camera gear (instead of studying for an exam ) and I took the shot below of a seagull. Initially I thought it had swallowed a cherry, but quickly realized ALL the seagulls must have swallowed a cherry because they all looked the same. I later discovered that the red "cherry" was a target for chicks to hit to release the food from the parent's gullet...

The crow on the right side is the young one screaming for food, sure ; here we have crows all over.....
