Day 19 ...
Day 19 ...
This is Schizostylis (Kaffir Liliy). My clever Head Gardener grew this in our front garden. The conditions were very bright in direct sun. I took a meter reading off the brightest area which came out at 1/125s f/8. I wanted f/8 to get some DOF on the flower, but because the metering made all but the brightest parts of the flower dark I managed to lose the crappy background detail that I didn't want.

VIEW ON BLACK
During the Summer this ferry runs between the town centre and a beach (plus a couple of hotels) near the harbour entrance.
Mostly cloudy but with a few sunny spells so I went to check out a possible location, at the harbour entrance, for future use.
Managed a couple of shots when the sun co-operated. I think I will return to this spot when the conditions are better.
This was the last day of the cutting down of the dying Locust tree. All that remains is cleaning up - yuk I'm putting in three pictures today. The first two show that last effort of the tree to remain and the final end as the trunk is down. The third is in hopes that some one of you might recognize the peculiar streak that ran up through the tree. It certainly isn't normal and may have been the cause of the tree's demise. If you know what it is and whether it might be the cause please let me know. My e-mail address is

This is the last tall top standing. Shot with Olympus E-620, 54mm, f/8.0 @ 1/500
The trunk is down and being cut into small enough pieces to haul to the front of the house. Shot
E-60, 31mm, f/8.0 @ 1/30
The top-most cut of the trunk which was roughly 20 feet from the bottom. Shot with E-620,
35mm, f/8.0 @ 1/15. You can see the strange brownish marking that went upward through
the tree although at lessor size.

Dominique, the Cat Man, on Mallory Square. He does an amazing show with trained house cats.
I shot it and processed it yesterday, but the internet was out in our hotel.
C&C are always welcome.
Cheers,

This thread is not a competition. It is for those who can commit to taking and posting at least one image per day for each day in October. Obviously as you have just joined you were not in a position to post and image per day from 1st - 18th October.
The idea is to present a challenge to people to meet that commitment of making at least one image per day. Some of us cannot commit to achieving that, so do not take part in these threads. But we sit back and enjoy the efforts and achievements of everyone else.
