very nice shots of the moth
That is some form of shieldbug. A few species can emit a strong odour as a means of defence so they are also known as Stinkbugs.
The focus is fine, Dave. All you can do from those angles is to get the nearest points, particularly the head, in good focus and let everything else blur into an artistic type of scene.
Some moths will vibrate to warm themselves up before taking flight.
Thank you Geoff for that information.
DAVE
I like these ones Dave - ditching the tubes seems to have helped.
I especially like the moth shots
Dave, excellent captures of the moth. I also like the shieldbug.
Excellent captures, Dave. Note the enlarged, "raptorial" hind legs on your second specimen. It might be a Helmeted Squash Bug (Euthochtha galeator). See second image here:

The focus on the first batch is excellent. I think your macro kit is the same one I saw one of my doctors used on me for the before and after grab shot of my operation.
The second one is called a stink bug here. My kids (doggies) bring them home from time to time from the outside. I never get to photography any because Bill will always grab a napkin and flush it down the toilet (every time!)
