Onion
Actually, it's a yellow onion.
Setup
The background is black velvet and the tabletop is a floor tile. A small continuous-light lamp is in the right rear area with a flag positioned between it and the camera to eliminate flare. A flash light (torch) is in the left front area brightening that area of the scene. A polarizer filter controls glare.

Re: Onion
Nice colors , texture and light Mike I'm not sure about the composition . IMO cropping about 1/3 of the onion from the LHS might work fine

Re: Onion
Wonderful lighting and color. I also like the tight crop but I'm usually a fan of shots in close........as I know you are too.

Re: Onion
Thank you to Binnur and Dave!
I also like the crop Binnur suggested and had tried it before deciding on the current composition. For me it tells a different story, not a better or worse story. On a different day I could easily imagine being in a different mood and going for her crop.
