I like the reduced water of the edit, Phil, but you have lost the impact of that excellent sky.

My thoughts were more along the lines of a little lost from the water and a balancing amount from the sides to retain the full sky. Or have the full width and a slightly less panoramic ratio to keep some of those dark clouds.

However, to my way of thinking, you are on the right lines with that edit which is capable of becoming a good dramatic scene.

This one works for me Phil.But I'm afraid I still prefer the original because of the feeling of vastness it conveys. I would only remove the two birds at the top and leave the rest as is
