Old Afghani man

This street portrait was taken a few weeks ago when we were at a local park with two of our grandchildren.
As we were leaving, I noticed an elderly man dressed in what to me at least appeared to be native Afghani garb. He spoke no English, but when I pointed to my camera and then to him, he smiled and nodded, and I got this shot.

Great non-verbal communication with your subject. I love the detail in his beard that was achieved without sacrificing the softness. He is wearing colors that so nicely complement his skin tone and beard. Everything comes together so nicely!

Thank you all for the kind comments.
Because of our multi-cultural society, in Toronto one can simply drive a short distance within the city to travel the world.
I was very pleased with the results, especially because I was experimenting with a rather obscure brand of lens which came to me as a throw-in in a package of equipment I bought from a retiring professional photobud.
I researched the brand and was not encouraged by the less than stellar comments, but the focal length range was useful for street shooting so I decided to invest a roll and see what it could do.
This was taken wide open and I was happy with the results.
Not bad for a lens that one can pick up on ebay for as little as $15.00.

Ah've come across this lens, often, in the middle of searching for other lenses. Been tempted tae buy it as well, seen it as low as £9 in the UK. As you say, less than stellar reviews but your lens and the 24/28mm have a good reputation, unlike most of Makinon's range. Although , they did build for Vivitar and they had very high performance requirements. Seems that poor QC at the factory and a high return rate were one of many reasons why they didn't survive the 80s (though that's true for many small but well regarded companies who could not compete with the technological advances of the major manufacturers). You have a good one as evidenced by a very good shot, well-taken.

My particular copy of the lens came about strictly by luck. I never bothered to investigate any Makinon lenses except this one, and then only after I noticed in the bag of gear I had purchased.
