I'm not very good at this...Part two

Part two was created to try out tethered shooting, I have to say not without some trauma. The first attempt resulted in all of images disappearing somewhere, I know not where!. The issue seemed to have been caused by a conflict between Lightroom tethered shooting and Canon's Digital Professional. I couldn't get LR to shoot tethered but I managed to convince the Canon EOS-Utility to let me use Live View shooting and to save the files in a folder that LR watches. That part worked OK. Though I'm not sure the end result is particularly good.

I shall as always welcome your thoughts and comments.

I've never had a lot of luck with Lightroom when shooting tethered; the connectivity with the camera was always a tad touchy and unstable. I started using Capture One (which started life as a tethering tool for high end Phase One cameras) works a lot better for me and I am starting to use it as my raw editing software too.

I find that you could do better by boosting the contrast a bit. The shot looks a bit muddy.

It's difficult to quantify how much better this image is than the first. An absolutely huge improvement!

That's primarily because I see no unwanted reflections. Other improved details: The use of controlled, wanted reflections nicely frame the front label and help define the shape of the bottle. The muted look of the lettering on the rear of the wine bottle no longer competes with the lettering on the front of the bottle.

Agreed with Manfred about the pop in his version that's lacking in yours.

The image is so nice that I'll make a couple more suggestions to consider to take it to an even higher level. Notice that the reflection on the right side competes with the signature. Consider eliminating that reflection. Also consider rotating the bottle slightly to display more of that signature even though doing so will place the other lettering off-center. Also consider lighting the top the way you did in the first version only even brighter. It's really easy to light the top in its own capture once you get used to using layers and the move tool to move it from one capture to another capture. Last, most definitely remove the bar code and perhaps other parts of the labeling from the rear. A product called Goo Gone marketed in America is the best that I've found for removing all kinds of labels from bottles.

Thanks for all the hints and tips gentlemen. Having just searched the Internet for this malt, I've decided that I should give it the attention it's value deserves. I may also consider including the tin as well as the bottle in my next image. However that will require to separate exposures that will require compositing. Yet another learning curve for me.

Just a personal opinion, Peter, but I have never been overly keen on Islay whisky. I much prefer mine to come from the other side of the country, around the Speyside area.
