    Milky Way

Last night I photographed the Milky Way for the first time. I certainly made some newbie mistakes but am satisfied with this first result. I shot about 30 images; 8 sec, f/2.0 at ISO 6400 using a 12mm wide angle on a Sony a6500. Twenty images were stacked in Starry Landscape Stacker to eliminate the noise and then processed in Lightroom and Photoshop. Lots of different color stars are evident that are usually unseen to the naked eye. Lots of light pollution in my local area so it required some travel to find a relatively dark sky.

Many thanks for posting this great example Paul with details of how and what you used to achieve the result.

It's an area of photography I'm just starting to delve into and with only a 10 minute drive to open ocean with no light pollution for thousands of miles I'm just waiting for the clouds to clear and allow me to explore further

I like it. Here I'm unable to do that.
Just on the news about falling stars. I searched for some link https://www.space.com/15353-meteor-s...ing-sdcmp.html.

Great result, Paul, I am impressed. Just about to embark on my first "real" macrophotography, and now already itching to try the night sky. So many possibilities and choices!

Brian, for info there's what is called the 500 rule (and also a 600 one) for determining shutter speeds to limit star movement/trail and this also depends on focal length used. You may be aware of it.

That I am. And that's the problem. 3.2 seconds is as slow as I can go at F3.2. That also puts me at ISO 3200 which is starting to pushy it with my camera.

I will be ordering the Skywatcher adventure mount. Attached to a pier and lined up properly I will be able to decrease my shutter speed a whole bunch and mabe my ISO setting to 800 or so.
