    Allen or "Lurchy" is fine

    Milkyway

Yesterday very early morning, my sister and my bestfriend(fellow photographer) drove to a national park to practice doing astrophotography. And here is the result from the hours we spent in the cold:

MilkywayMilkyway by Allen Lennon, on Flickr

It isnt the best work out there but im happy to see im improving!

It was a great time though, first time my sister came along to a photography shoot with my friend, and she decided to bring her Olympus TG-4 just to muck around. But while we waited for my bestfriend to do her long exposures to try star trails and me capturing the milkyway, my sister made the jump to get a dslr herself so she can have fun as well. So after we packed up, went to the camera store and she got herself a canon 6d!

    Any C&C is always appreciated!

    Re: Milkyway

Allen, this is a very nice capture.
I would possibly crop to even more of a letterbox style to add emphasis to the sky and reduce the impact of the foreground rock. I would not remove it completely but at present (for me) it distracts from the drama of the sky, unlike the glow on the horizon which I assume is a town?

Could I ask... what were your exposure settings?

I like the capture, Allen -- and out came another photography companion for you. I am glad you have convinced your sister to take it up.

Beautiful sky and capture, Allen. You got more fine detail than my attempt. Astrophotography is fun and rewarding with beautiful images.

Very nice sky and image. Full respect here, as it's not something I've even attempted
