    Staircase geometric

This was taken a number of years ago here in downtown Toronto while walking around on a sunny day.
I spotted an interesting fire escape against a light brown painted brick wall. Exposing for the wall put the black metal stairs completely in silhouette and gave me a pleasing geometric composition.

I think that you have a very good eye, Robert. However, I think that you have too much in this image. My quick first reaction, is to crop off some of the bottom. The pink is a bit wishy-washy. If you substituted something more dramatic (in keeping) then I think it would enhance the image. If you want further info on how to do this, then re-post or pm me.

I like it. My eyes keep coming back to the gap in the frame.

    Mike / Jim /John / Brian,
    Thanks for the comments.
    Jim,
I considered cropping horizontally at some point near the bottom, but found that removing the thick platform left the composition "unanchored" which I didn't like. I see the background colour as light brown rather than pink as you described, but either way it is the contrast between it and the black metal that is most important to the composition, so I don't see an advantage to changing it, which, while I don't even know how to do, is quite simple, according to my Photoshop/Lightroom savvy photobuds.

+1 to Jim's comment about cropping the bottom. But of course this is a matter of personal taste. When the bottom is gone the whole photo becomes more abstract, which I happen to like but is not everyone's cup of tea. Background color seems fine to me. Thanks for sharing!
