    Guess that wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be
    Nope, I got it straight away too.

    Was this a still life; shot under controlled conditions allowing you to 'play with' the light raking across the gills?
    Might make an interesting series?

    Has anyone any experience of photographing fungus gills from below and without picking the fungus? I would guess that digging a hole next to the stem is not on. Those that grow from trees would be easier. I'm sure that if I put my Powershot on the ground under the cap then I might do it - if I could get the light right.

    Well I have photographed quite a few for identification.

    Sometimes you can find an acceptable camera angle; but if you are going to do a spore print for identification you do have to take a sample.
