I thought her engagement ring was a tough shoot. It took me 65 attempts to find a combination of lights and angles to take a reasonable shot. The goose was inside a carnival glass bowl. I had two flashlights and two room lights to play with. Thankfully I was shooting tethered so I could slowly but surely correct the worst of my errors.

Nice effort, I would suggest tilting but the goose's head and angle of reflected light provides enough angled tension to accentuate the composition.

I'll be doing more work with these geese. Tilting will undoubtedly be a part of the learning curve.

Don't let me pretend to be any sort of expert on this sort of photography but I have noted that when jewellers display an item such as this, they light it from below (e.g. through a glass shelf) as well as from above. I wonder if that works photographically? Just a thought.

Congratulations, Brian , as you have chosen an enormously difficult subject to photograph unless you can capture it in a very dark environment. Otherwise, it reflects all sorts of colors and shapes originating throughout the room.

Also, thanks to the subject's many flat surfaces, changing just one tiny aspect of the relationship between the light source(s), subject and camera can entirely change the look of the subject. You have probably already discovered that it might be ideal to position the camera and lighting setup as you want it and then fine tune the appearance of the subject by altering its position.
