    Train tunnel revisited

There is a 1730 ft / 527m train tunnel that runs underneath the downtown area of the Canadian city of Brockville; which is on the north bank of the St Lawrence River. It was the first train tunnel that was built in Canada. It was first opened in late 1860 and was closed 110 years later, in 1970. The "grand re-opening" occurred yesterday; August 12, 2017.

The City of Brockville restored the tunnel and it was officially re-opened for public use yesterday. The rail bed was replaced by a concrete walkway and a floor-mounted lighting system was installed, so ever changing coloured light illuminates the tunnel. Ground water seeps in, so one feels drops of water as one makes ones way through the tunnel.

Nicely captured, Canada does wonders with tunnels and urban living.

I agree. I'm guessing that a lot of heartache, blood, sweat and tears went into digging out that tunnel in1860 and it's worth celebrating the achievement.

Well done Manfred and to the City for bringing the tunnel back to life.
