    Leaf Avalanche

I shot my favorite forest preserve in infrared while I was eaten alive by mosquitoes. I did not think about repellent before I left home (BIG mistake). The sky was overcast which created very flat lighting. This image required lots of contrast boosting in Lightroom. The TIF file looks better (more tones) than this jpeg. Comments and suggestions for improvement welcome.

Paul, I would cut pull very slightly on the highlights but that is personal taste.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. It does look a bit too bright here and some of the leaves loose their detail. I've found that with my modified camera, the internal light metering tends to blow out the highlights under some conditions. An EV -.3 or -.7 works better, especially on sunlight foliage. Frankly, I've not shot IR enough this summer to get a good feel for it yet. I really like the look of B&W infrared.

I have an IR filter and I want to try IR photography hopefully within this year Paul. But I like watching IR images through internet and I see a lot of blown out highlights especially in the foliage in those images. So, may be this is the usual practice and normal in IR photography . For me the blown out sky looks a bit distracting in your image, not the bright foliage

Cool photo. I've been wanting to experiment with IR as well. Can be really artistic and fun. Nice work.
