    Couple of Very Different Waterfalls

Different from one another that is.

There is a place in Prince William Sound called Cascade Bay due to a relatively large waterfall there. As well as can be determined on Google Earth, the fall is 210-225ft(65-70m) high and has a fairly significant volume of flow which includes the runoff from a couple of hanging glaciers. As is often the case with objects of impressive size it is difficult to capture the sense of scale. So I included our boat in the photos in an attempt to do so.

Just a short distance away is an intimate little fall of a totally different nature. I typically use a CPL in scenes like this unfortunately I somehow forgot to include it when I packed my camera bag.

    3) An overall view of the fall coming out of a small, moss lined canyon.

    4) The tiny stream had its own run of salmon in progress so I asked my wife to stand bear watch for me while I took a few shots. Shooting a closed in location like this with the noise of the stream masking any approaching foot steps makes it difficult to concentrate on the task at hand. While on guard she insisted that I take a shot emphasizing the mushroom shaped, moss-covered rock.

The use of your boat to provide a sense of scale works well. My only thinking is that you should consider either changing your screen name to Divine Focus or changing your boat's name to Northern Focus.

I really like the last one best of all, so please thank your wife for standing guard.

The Divine Focus is in acknowledgement of the source of my subject matter. I'm plan on changine the name of my business, web site, etc. Typically changing user names on-line seems to be a difficult task. But if the mods were so inclined I'd be grateful.

Yes, since landscape is not my forte I think she has a new job

Manfred recently changed his screen name, so with just a slight nudge I'm sure he'd be willing to change yours also.

Glad you enjoyed the photos, Izzy.

IMO both methods of capturing moving water have their place. Per the title of this thread these were very different waterfalls that warranted very different treatment. When you're there in person the sheer size and the sound of the large fall definitely dominates the landscape and focuses all of your attention. The mind captures the detail of the water so the photo should reflect that.

On the other hand, when one sits by the little stream it's the softness, both tactile and visual, and the coolness that one reflects on. IMO the smooth water visually represents the soft, cool feeling of the location.
