    First Signs of Fall

Anyone expecting to see fall colors or shots of migrating waterfowl will be disappointed.

We finally live in a location where there aren't any bears to be attracted to a backyard bird feeder. So this (early)spring I set up a couple of them. In early spring all we had for visitors were hundreds of redpolls and dozens of black capped chickadees. All summer the only visitors to the feeders have been a few resident chickadees. Within the past few days the robins have completely disappeared from the yard and several different species have shown up at the feeders. Early signs of the fall migration.

So i spent a few minutes with them in the back yard. It's also a good opportunity(aka excuse) to exercise some equipment

Following shot with D810 and 300mm f2.8; handheld

    1) Red breasted nuthatch.

    5) Northern waterthrush

    6) And here's a redpoll from the mob this past spring. I love this shot. Shot with the D500 and 200-500mm f5.6

Must be nice to have such as a variety of birds in your yard Dan. Very nice set of images. Backgrounds were clearly carefully sought out.

    Re: First Signs of Fall

Glad you folks enjoyed the birdies. When I created the OP I didn't notice how similar shots 1 and 3 are. I meant to put up the following in lieu of no.1.

John, the variety only occurs spring and fall. All winter we'll be reduced to a few redpolls and chickadees. There will be snow buntings down on the marsh once it freezes over but I don't think they will visit the feeder.
