    Nestled

I finally got a chance to take a break from moving and shoot a wee little bit. I found this small barn near our new home... I was thinking black and white when I shot it. Your comments are always welcome. :-)

    Hi Susan .
I like the composition with the boughs of the tress seeming to form concentric arches around the shack and the line of vegetation at the base holding it all together, but I wonder if the full colour version would concentrate the eye more on the shack (assuming that is what you intended) because for me the mono (tinted) version is now of low overall contrast and the shack sort of melts into the foliage.
If you intend it to remain mono, I would burn in the edges (or vignette it ) and this would focus attention more on the shack.
A pleasant picture though thanks for sharing.

    Hi John,
Thanks for your thoughts on this one, I appreciate it. My husband voted for the color version for those very reasons. Perhaps a better name would be Enveloped as that was how it all felt and looked to me and that was more my aim. For contrast I wanted to bring out the little bits of light on the path, sky and barn but am not sure I was terribly successful with that in PP. This does have a slight vignette but I didn't want to go heavy as the trees do most of work already and trees are my thing and are the subject just as much as the barn for me. I did brush in some areas darker as well. I think a darker vignette would make it even drearier. I am looking forward to going back here as it is close to home when there isn't so much smoke in the air..there are forest fires everywhere. Thanks much, Susan

Hi, Susan. I love the composition. Old buildings are typically a perfect opportunity for B/W. But as already suggested this particular situation may have been better served by color.

That looks like western Oregon ?

That's beautiful country. For years we planned on retiring to the Oregon coast. Probably around Florence. But I retired two years ago and we just can't pull ourselves away from Alaska.

We looked hard at Florence but decided for more sunshine instead. Some of the best Redwood groves are just 'over the hill'. I think I will be spending quite a bit of time on the southern Oregon coast in the coming year.

Beautiful composition. I'm a sucker for old barns . I agree that maybe a color version would separate the shack/barn from the tree landscape a bit more, and draw in more attention.

I hope, maybe, you can try a very subtle version of this mono. This is a bit strong for my taste, maybe because I am just a simple person with a simple taste...or it might be my monitor. I will try to calibrate it again.
