    Giant rubber ducky

How often does one get to see a giant 18m / 60ft tall yellow rubber ducky? The duck was supposed to be in the water, but with high winds and a thunderstorm in the forecast, the organizers left in on shore.

Hard to photograph when there are hundreds of other people trying to do so as well. This is the best shot I could manage.

It seems to get harder these days to capture a picture without someone there taking a selfie

That is why I chose this particular shot. It had only one person taking a selfie, when in fact I could have shown dozens of people doing so, all at the same time.

Giant mechanical bugs and lizards and now this. You guys really have too much time and finances on your hands down there. I'll bet all that yellow blew the camera's mind on exposure and WB. With all that yellow and green I'm guessing auto WB would have been in the high 3000s ?

The duck was on our river a few years ago and I managed to walk right past it and didn't see it until someone pointed it out to me. Nice shot.

Actually, no the SOOC data shows a WB of 5750K and the histogram shows no channel clipping. The D810 continues to pleasantly surprise me this way.

I have to chuckle a bit regarding your comment. When we got down to the waterfront, my wife asked me "where's the duck" at which point I had to get her to look to her right just a bit....

This was the last stop on the Duck's Canadian "tour". I understood that it would be returning to it's home base in Akron, Ohio.

Now that you mention it, Manfred, there are white clouds in the scene. Though I've not studied it in earnest it seems like the auto WB in newer Nikon models does a much better job when there is something (fairly significant) in the scene that is white.

It's called the St Lawrence River / St Lawrence Seaway...

The land one can see on the other side of the river from where I am shooting is just outside of the Town of Ogdensburg in Northern New York State; USA. This site is a few miles downstream from where the duck was located.

Manfred, the ducky is a great picture because of the couple taking a selfie in front of him. It's definitely a male because no sensible female would be seen in those bright colours out of her bathtub.

    Re: Giant rubber ducky

I may be missing the the more subtle messages in here, but why is there 60ft tall yellow rubber ducky in the first place!

And if there has to be one and it going to be put on display, then you might as well get a picture, and this picture does that just fine.
