Canon custom WB strange behavior

Set the 7D mk II custom WB with a photo of a white card today.

After shooting a bunch of shots, I noticed that the custom WB was applied to every other photo, instead of all of them!

On the LCD scrolling through the photos, one looks good, the next looks horrible, then next good, etc.

Loaded into Lightroom, same deal.

Good news is, I shot in RAW so I can just paste the same WB to all the bad shots.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Just a long shot.

With my camera I can set it up for WB bracketing . Never tried it but I think it could possibly behave in a similar way to what you have.
No chance something like that has happened by accident?

My thought, not being a Canon DSLR shooter, was the same as Paul's; WB bracketing might have become engaged somehow, but I've not used that feature on my Nikon either, so have no experience how it might manifest itself.

How does it behave if you try a test with your camera now?
If still doing it, investigate settings.
AND/OR
Try a User/Custom setting (on mode dial) to see if that stops it doing it (assuming you recorded one without this problem being apparent).
AND/OR
Try factory reset to see if that makes it behave

Hope it resolves without recourse to sending it away.

An even longer shot: I also assume you're not in JPG+RAW and seeing the effect in jpgs, but not on the RAWs?
(but assume you'd have noticed if alternate shots were identical)

Need confirmation/information concerning the meaning of: "every other photo".

Q1. was it precisely every alternate image?
Q2. if NO to Q1. what was the exact sequence?

Also note that nuance of a change in Colour Balance cannot always be judged by eye, especially a male's eye.
Note also that any Picture Style setting will affect the LCD image.

Also need to know:
Q3. what was the precise lighting conditions?

Initially, these are the three functions that you need to check and confirm that you did NOT have engaged:
1. White Balance Correction
2. Auto Exposure Bracketing
3. White Balance Auto Bracketing

BTW -
If you set a Manual White Balance and then IF you also had White Balance Bracketing engaged, then the camera would expect you to TAKE ONE shot; and it will record a Bracket of THREE IMAGES the FIRST of which will be the "correct one" as per the Manual White Balance that you set.

ONE reason for asking the third question:

If you set a Manual White Balance and whether or not you had either White Balance Correction and/or White Balance Bracketing engaged AND you were shooting under THREE PHASE LIGHTING with a Shutter Speed faster than the cycle speed of the mains electricity, then you would get ad hoc colour balance between shots.

There may be other reasons for the error you attained, but these are the most common in my experience: as mentioned, the exact details / confirmation of what you wrote and answers to my questions, would be useful for a more accurate diagnosis.
