    A quiet moment for prayer

Another from a recent visit to Exeter Cathedral:

    A quiet moment for prayer

    Any comments always welcome.

    Cheers.

Thank you both. I have had the sort of problems with Tinypics that have been described here by others, but I just succeeded in uploading a larger version of the same image - it wouldn't let me do so earlier today. This one (now in post #1) has slightly more contrast, so I do apologise if this affects your previous comments.

Instead of treating that person as a distraction, you've used it to your advantage. Very nice, Philip. He also gave a good scale to your shot here. I can almost feel the cold marbled columns here.

I think I would lie to have seen him a little higher in the frame but a good image never the less. Agree with Izzie about him adding scale.

Thank you, Susan, Dan, Izzie and John.

I do agree that it would have been great to include more of the person in the shot. However, the 'head & shoulders' was to avoid including in the foreground a large mirror on a stand, put there to enable visitors to view the ceiling.

I like it a lot. Maybe also try a B&W version because I think that composition is good and should not be overshadowed by nice colours. Just a thought.

I am confused, Ole...You said nice colours then you requested to change it to B&W?

Izzie, colours can be very nice, however in terms of a picture they can dominate and you can say: 'very nice colours,' when asked about the picture itself: 'don't know, the colours were great though.' What I like about this picture is the austere and perhaps majestic surroundings. Colours take that away, that is the viewer is focused on the colours instead of the total scene.

Re: A quiet moment for prayer

    Thank you John and Ole.

Ole, I have a mono version, which I also like. This one was done using the Nik software, Silver Efex Pro 2, and based on Preset 005 - High Structure (harsh):

    A quiet moment for prayer

The problem is, of course, that there are infinite possibilities in conversion, and others might prefer a quite different approach.

Re: A quiet moment for prayer

Philip, I like it. As you mention, there are infinite possibilities. Maybe tone down the high structure a tad and go for more subtle tones. That, however, is only my opinion.

Re: A quiet moment for prayer

Technically this is nice too; but somehow the pillars etc look harsh to eyes and deviate the attention from the main subject; so i choose the original
