Holiday in the Black Forest Germany.

Holiday in the Black Forest Germany.

On our trip through Europe,we visited Hungary, Austria, Lichtenstein,France,Switzerland and Germany. We have seen many beautiful natural areas. One of these areas was the black forest in Germany, a vast area where many wildlife lives, such as the wolf. Also, the black forest holds the largest waterfall in Germany.

It is a nice capture and composition Arnold,

I just wonder, if you shot RAW, whether there's any more detail to be extracted from the shadows?
It gives me the feeling of viewing through sunglasses and if I were there, I'd take them off to see better, if you know what I mean.

I know what you meant, the sun was so bright, with light spots on the green and dark places like shadow. This was the best thing to do and yes, I always photograph in RAW.

I tried to adjust my monitor, Arnold...having a new monitor, I thought it is too dark, and I can't do anything at this end so I read Dave's comment. I agree with him.

    Possibly not, Dave.

I just looked at the luminosity histogram of the posted image and there's a ton of counts at 0 level (huge spike) and not many counts above 64 at all (mainly the sunlit water and leaves). So if the shadows were brightened, there would still be a lack of contrast and hence "detail", IMO . . .

. . . unless the conversion and post-processing forced those levels down, to better capture the water?

As has been already mentioned, the scene DR was just too much for the camera. Bracketing and merging or fusing might had helped but then you get that blurred look in the flowing water.

The image is nicely composed. Can't say much beyond that as it is too dark to see much more. This was a good candidate for HDR.
