    Eclipse

My neighbor was very interested in the partial eclipse we experienced today. He set up an old telescope (which he rescued from a dumpster - years ago) to project the eclipse onto a white board...

IMO, it was hardly worth bothering with...

He also set up his camera with a cheezy tripod and 28-135mm lens.

I "think" that if I were in a geographic area that showed more of a total eclipse, that I "might" have been a bit more interested.

My wife bought me a pair of glasses and I had a great time using them. We had perfect weather until about five minutes after the maximum eclipse of 81% was achieved in our area. For the next half hour, the clouds made the sun completely invisible when using the glasses. The sun then came back in full force and I was able to watch most of the second half of the eclipse.

I also kept my eye on a NASA website displaying an image of the sun using a hydrogen alpha telescope (whatever that is!). The magnification is so large that only part of the sun is displayed. When the eclipse got down to the last sliver, the magnification made it easy to detect the motion of the moon moving past the sun.

    Lots of fun!

Nice series of the setup and output. There was about a dozen of us who shared a pair.

Our neighbour came to join us and she has a pin hole thing made out of cereal box. I inspected it while the last end was showing and it is interesting inside the box. It was pretty for a quick part and the shadow because it is just a shadow wasn't really round. We have a lot of clouds but some were not high enough.

Neat and much bigger than through the glasses!
