Wow! Double wow!

It's interesting that I work so darn hard to light a subject to reveal all of its shape, yet the striking, compelling characteristic of this image is the lack of shape in the saucer, which frames and highlights the shape of the cup and the many shapes in the coffee. The subtle tonal variation in the tabletop nicely frames and contrasts the plain saucer. Very well done!

It started life as a more or less side-on shot of the coffee cup with just enough angle to catch the contents; however, the composition included a glass of Amaretto (well, cold tea actually) with the "wine" and coffee on a white porcelain tray, and I just could not get the lighting right. That was yesterday; today I went for "keep it simple stupid" and am much happier.

Thanks for explaining how the image evolved, Bill. Certainly not every plan I have produces the impact I imagined, which requires formulating Plan B, C, D, or...well, you get the idea.
