My wife discovered these on our butterfly weed plants. This is the first time we've seen these on our flowers in forty years. I counted seven of them on three plants. We will be watching them every day to watch their development into their next stage (chrysalis) and finally emerge as new butterflies. I haven't done much macro this summer so this is merely a cropped image from my Sony a6500 with a 50mm lens (75mm equivalent on a 35mm camera). This guy seemed to enjoy eating a late blossom on the plant.
If Nature cooperates, I'll get more photos as these develop over the next few weeks.
