    Is this even available?

I'm looking for a hot shoe swivel that keeps the original connection from the camera hot shoe to the flash without any extra wires.
I want to be able to aim the whole SB700 flash down more than it currently will go. This is for macro work. Is something like this even available? I can't find anything like it.

If you're using a camera body that has the Commander Control, the flash unit needs no wire so long as it receives the infrared signal coming from the camera. If it's too close to the camera, which might be the case when doing certain macro work, it may not always receive that signal. That would be especially true if you are working outside and there aren't any walls that redirect the infrared signal. When working inside, I wouldn't be concerned about that.

My D7200 does have commander mode plus I do have a Nikon SU-800 Commander that attaches to the hot shoe. I guess I could get a bracket that attaches to the tripod mount and holds a flash up and to the side. Never thought of that, thanks. Sure with someone made a hot shoe swivel adapter of some kind.

Generally, people move the flash off camera, using either a purchased or DIY bracket, and connect the flash with a cable. I have both a Wimberley bracket and a DIY one. I usually use the latter. In both cases, I position the flash so that the end of the diffuser (also DIY) is very close to the end of the lens. I don't have a photo of the Wimberley, but I'll past the DIY one below. It is made of a straight aluminum bracket that I bought for $7. It had a cold shoe that I knocked off, and then I drilled it out to allow me to attach the bottom of two miniballs. The diffuser is made out of a soda can, a few layers of parchment (lots of different materials work fine, including paper towel), and gobs of gaffer's tape.

    Dave,

Do you have a specific objection to using a cable other than that it's yet another accessory you have to store, remember to take with you, etc., etc.?

Not really Mike, I just had the adapter style in my head and it seemed easy. I may just pick up a cable.....may come in handy anyways.
