I decided that I hate swans and a couple of hoverflies

Back in Englnad now near Christchurch Dorset. I took a walk along the Avon and found a few swans having salad.

Bloody difficult. They are way too white to be swimming in dark water and then they have a black head. We need a sensor with a dynamic range of at least 512K stops to accomodate their extreme whiteness and to be able to retrieve some detail with a black eye in a black head.



Trying to bracket handheld with a moving river and subject for stacking doesn't work although it will fill SD cards fast.

At least the hoverflies play nicer.

I'd say avoid the frustration and stick to the hoverflies. Awesome shots.

I know exactly what you mean, Brian. I tend to ignore swans unless it is a slightly overcast day and I have an ideal light angle. In bright sunshine you have to under expose by so much to get the swan correct; then everything else turns black.

512K stops?! Just wait for the sunset. With the sun behind your back you can shoot swans with a bridge camera
