    A Magenta Fog

A shallow ground fog is tinted by a fading sunset. I used gradients to slightly darken the sky and boost the color of the fog and sunset. A multiply blend mode also enhanced the color.

The foreground tree was planted by my daughter when she was very small. It was a maple whip about two feet tall. We call it our "Jackie tree."

Is this an attractive crop and composition? Comments and suggestions welcome.

I find both the crop and composition working Paul and the fog is well pronounced. It's a bit unfortunate such a large area of the tree is in silhouette.

One of the problems with the multiply blend mode is that it darkens the darks.

I love your composition, Paul. Contrary to what Grahame think, I think the sillouette is pretty as is or the colours will be all overdone and all over the place. Just a thought.

Great story about the "Jackie tree." Everything about the image works really well for me.

Very nice image and accompanying story Paul. I am with Grahame on the tree being a tad large, but I do like the intensity of the darks.

"Improvement" can be a quite subjective thing. I'd prefer to say "Personally I like Jackie Tree 2" best of the three treatments.

Still the first one for me Paul. I prefer the spacial feeling it imparts.

    Re: A Magenta Fog

I was also wondering about a crop but can't seem to get it to work by cropping the top; although cutting it off about half way up might be acceptable.

However, I will suggest something different. Crop a little from the left side and retain the full height. Reduce the sky area between the tree 'crown' and the side edge by around half. Just a little reduction seems to lighten the whole scene and give a better balance to the tree.

Possibly that will end up with an odd image size though, although I suppose a similar balancing amount could be taken from the bottom ?

Very nice image Paul I prefer the original. If I were to crop I would crop the image from the top to eliminate the blue patch of sky on the top left corner. IMO that would make a nice (may be a nicer) composition.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll play with these in Lightroom.
