Entrance, walls and tiles - Dubrovnik

When I was beginning to learn about photography, a never-ending process, I took this photo when we were walking around the perimeter of the old walled city of Dubrovnik. I zoomed in too close and the verticals were quite askew. However, with perspective editing, etc, how does this fare please?

Looks about right Jim. You were lucky with the light. When we were there it was bright and harsh.

Very nice image for the reasons already mentioned. Consider cropping a little off the right side, especially if you prefer as I do relatively tight crops. Also consider applying a very subtle vignette to concentrate the viewers eye on the doorway.

I would crop a little from the right as well. Otherwise it looks nice.

    Really nicely done Jim!

I agree with John about the light - it is better than it was mid-day when I visited on a cruise that I took with my wife...

IMO: cruises are terrible for photographers. The dump you off at the worst part of the day and you have to be back aboard before the light gets good again Then there are the hoards of people that are disgorged from the cruise boats. Dubrovnik has a normal population of about 20,000 but the three cruise boats in port when I was there dumped off 40,000 visitors... And, most of them gravitated around the Old Town

Many thanks for all the nice comments and suggestions. Too much of a crop? Have also added a subtle feathered vignette.

That's the exact crop I had in mind. Those who aren't prone to such tight crops perhaps understandably won't like it as much as I do.

I don't notice the vignette, which in my mind is ideal. For whatever the reason (the crop and/or the vignette), my eye is immediately drawn to the most important part of the image. I'm then allowed to explore the other parts of the image, which are just as appealing in their supporting roles.

    Wonderful scene!

Is it just me, or is the corrected perspective a tiny bit back-asswards?

Probably just my uncalibrated monitor . . .

No walls of any building, even buildings constructed last month, are perfectly straight, much less buildings as old as those in Dubrobnik's Old Town. When I use the Lytebox to compare the vertical lines with the edge of the CiC window, enough of them look so closely aligned that I doubt that the perspective distortion can be improved.

When I see your picture, the first thing that I think about is walking through the entrance! It draws me in. The crop is perfect and the detail is intriguing. I like it!
