    Three devices in monochrome

I enjoy photographing everyday items in a style that makes them more interesting than how we see them while using them in our daily activities. I'm reasonably confident that many people will immediately know what one of the devices is but I wonder about the other two.

    Photos #1 & #2 Setup
The tabletop and background are a single sheet of translucent vellum. The background is lit on the right side by a medium continuous-light lamp and on the left side by a small one. Another small one to the right of the scene lights the subject.

    Photo #3 Setup
Everything is the same as in Photos #1 and #2 except all of the following: There is no small lamp on the right side of the scene. A flashlight (torch) on the front left lights the detail on the far right side of the subject. Another one behind and above the subject on the right side lights the dividers and creates their foreground shadows. A polarizer eliminated most of the glare.

I like these and the concept. However, I have to admit defeat on the quiz, other than for the obvious citrus squeezer. I have a faint suspicion that the second may be some form of light source - perhaps the torch that features in several of your compositions, including number 3 in this set?

    Thanks, everyone!

Bill is correct that the first image is a citrus squeezer. It is the size intended for squeezing lemons and limes.

Binnur is correct that the third one is a slicer, though it's an avocado slicer rather than an egg slicer. The part of the tool that removes the seed is partly included in the scene at the right edge of the frame.

The second image is also a kitchen tool, though it's photographed at an angle and with its parts positioned so the photo is rendered intentionally deceptive.

Beautiful lighting and composition. Number three is my favorite.

    Continued thanks to everyone!

The second image is a strawberry slicer.

It's standing on the end of its pair of handles, of which 90% of them is excluded from the image. The pair of handles are held open in their default position by a spring.

The strawberries are placed in between the press (not displayed in the photo) and the blades. The strawberries are sliced by squeezing the pair of handles, which presses the strawberries through the blades.

An even more confusing characteristic of the photo is that the slicer would be used with the blades facing down and parallel to the counter top, not facing upward and at an angle as displayed in the photo.

Mike, the first image is not one of your best, it has a lot of flare. The other two are up to your usual high standards. I did not realize that mankind had (finally) developed a strawberry slicer. My brain hurts
    Cheers Ole

Presumably it processes them in RAW format ...

    Re: Three devices in monochrome

Thanks for the interest as always, Ole, but the first image has absolutely no flare. There must be something else going on that makes you think that or that you don't like, which would be understandable.
