    Bournemouth Air Festival 2017

I was lucky to watch the first day of this year Bournemouth Air Festival, UK's biggest airshow. Not all shots are as close and sharp as I would like them to be, but hope you enjoy them.

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, were the highlight of the show. They are nine modern BAE Systems Hawk T1 jet planes that can do all sorts of flying formations and manoeuvres:

    #1 Red Arrows.

#2 Red Arrows. See why they are called that?

#3 Red Arrows flying upside down in a "Diamond" formation.

#4 Red Arrows. IMHO the most spectacular manoeuvre called "Tornado".

#5 The lady is having a little stretch. No one likes sitting on the planes

#6 Standing on the planes seems more fun

#7 Not sure what this manoeuvre is called...

#8 Some more upside down synchronised flying in a group of two...

#9 and in a group of three

    A couple of WW2 legends

    #10 Bristol Blenheim twin-engined Mk1 bomber

I was a contributor to the Sally B restoration effort back in the 1980's. Good to see her still airworthy some thirty years later!

She flew right over the self catering house we were in in Christchurch. I believe I was overflown by a Mig 15 and an unidentified straight wing jet while at Highcliffe.

    Good series Dem,

My favourite is definitely #10, the Bristol Blenheim with a nice background.

    PS
I'm not sure what is most impressive though; the shots or that you seem to have successfully uploaded 11 large pictures to TinyPic in one sitting
Who knew that was still possible.

Thank you everyone for your comments.

I didn't know about Sally B, but apparently it is the last flying plane of its kind and it has a dedicated website and many supporters.

The background is the Isle of Wight some 13 miles away from the camera. It is a crop from a shot taken at 600 mm equvalent so it doesn't look that far.

    There's about a dozen or so world-wide:

Maybe she's the last one in the UK?

Those were fun. The tornado! is something else and you did a fine job capturing the full flavor of the day.

I see. http://www.sallyb.org.uk claims that "Sally B is the last remaining airworthy B-17 in Europe".

More RAF themed photos for people who like this kind of things - the winners of the annual "RAF Photographer of the Year" competition have been announced on the BBC site:
