    Snipe in defensive mode.

This little Snipe was disturbed by another small bird and immediately adopted the defensive mode, head down and tail fanned out.

    Snipe in defensive mode.

Well spotted, a really interesting shot with plenty of good feather detail.

Very nice! It took me a second to orient correctly, but beautiful bird.

A great image. I imagine you did not have much time to react and grab the shot!

Thank you all, I wouldn't normally have tried an action shot with the TC-20 EIII on the D700 but it worked very well in this quick, unexpected moment, (though I do have a couple of half-Snipe as it made its escape ).

This looks more like a common Snipe than a Sandpiper...I have not seen this stance of protectiveness, ready to fly just in case...well caught!

Thanks Issie, I don't think anyone suggested it was a Sandpiper, it is a Snipe as per the thread title.

Awesome shot, Roger. Great behavioral content, good techs, and eye contact to top it off. Well done.

Sorry typed too quick...my thoughts spilled unnecessarily.
