Excellent set
Interesting species there, Les. #1 & 3 are Volucella inanis. One which is gradually increasing its range but still a rarity around here.
#2 has an Eristalis on the right, probably E. arbustorum female. On the left, my guess would be for Melangyna compositarum/labiatarum but I'm not totally sure just from that one angle.
Thanks Geoff ive been seeing 1and 3 all summer but only managed to get these pictures today i was wondering what they were , a strange looking insect as for 2 i was taking a picture of the one on the right and the other one got in without me knowing i do like the shot though luckily it was in focus

Oh... I clicked thinking this was a thread about software. But while I'm here, nice set of images. Interesting how beat up the edges of the wings are in the first image. Another one of those details we only see through still photos.
