    Hello Shadowman,

A most interesting image! And from my perspective, remarkable for its depth of field sharpness at f2.8! I would expect more sharpness drop-off, but somehow you've managed to keep it sharp through most of its depth. Good for you.

I'm wondering what was the occasion, and although I can't quite make out his face, the man standing just outside the canopy with a goatee and what looks like a camera in his hands looks awfully like someone I know.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Zen,

The event was Art Under the Stars the photographer's name is Eric Evinczik. Thanks for commenting, this was shot handheld with 24-70mm lens, a heavy monster but well worth the fun.

I agree with you on the 24-70's. I've got both the 2.8 and the 4, and use the 4 ten times for each one of the 2.8 - all because of weight. Same with the 16-35's and 70-200's. And that's not the fellow I thought it was. But you're right about the occasion. All good.

    Zen,

On a few occasions I have trekked around with both the 70-300 and the 24-70 and the 70-300 is a charm to hold compared to the 24-70.

This is such an appealing image -- the warm tones, the outdoors, the environment, the action, etc., etc.

I have no idea why the thread's title is pertinent, as I see very few tones of blue in the image. Is it possible that you've got a typo and that the title was intended to refer to the blues style of music?

    Hi Mike,

Title selected to reflect the time of the shot, the blue hour or very close. Thanks for commenting. Actually, the singer was doing a Tiny Tim number.

This is very nice. The lighting, warmth, colors. Good music? If so, where's the audience?

I love this one John...gives me the inspiration to try night photography again. It is this time of the year that bands are having concerts all over the place here too.

    Hi Susan,

Thanks for commenting, there was a small cluster hidden in the darkness to the left of the other photographer and another to the right of the musicians.

    Hi Izzie,

Thanks for commenting, usually night time attractions setup to late or too early and you lose the attraction of a colorful sky, here the window lights added a bit of punch and I didn't have to be hesitant to shoot towards a homeowner's window. Home interior lighting gives a good balance and if there is an office building still lit I will readily shoot to my hearts content.

True...very good colour and the venue is excellent for it. Our nearby band concert is in a park part of a botanical gardens. It has been a busy month for us last and this month but I will try to go out and shoot night before dark and see what I can bring back. I kept thinking of this photo of yours. Really good, John...
