Exeter Cathedral - The Bishop's Throne
It is the tall dark wooden structure next to the choir stalls. It was constructed between 1312 and 1316, being finely carved from local Devon oak. It is a magnificent 18 metres (59 feet) high!
[ Pentax K-3 with 28-105 zoom at 37mm. ]
I wanted to record the complete structure as it looked to me, but a web search showed mainly photos of parts of it and/or the whole throne distorted by wide angle lens perspective - squashing the height and making the base appear too wide. I don't have any special lenses and it's not easy to find a good clear viewpoint but, for this image, I tried a sequence of four landscape shots with which to make a composite. To my great surprise and pleasure, Microsoft ICE did a great stitching job, even producing a reasonable perspective. I just made slight corrections to the verticals and a few other tweaks in PaintShop Pro, to give this image which seems to me to represent the scene as I remember it.
Any comments welcome.

Very well done, Philip. It is a very good stitch.
I think a few people would be interested having use of that image, given that it is so hard to take a photograph of it and a good one is something of a rarity.

Exceptional job! You should offer the image to a local tourist agency or whoever controls the cathedral...

Nicely done Philip. I'm sure that some of the verticals will be converging, but they are not at all obvious.

That's well thought through and executed Philips. The colour is nicely controlled as well.

That is a tough subject to photograph but your technique produced a beautiful image. The lighting and your exposure brings out the intricate carvings. It truly looks very old and is very beautiful. Imagine how many bishops have sat there over the centuries.

This one has to be viewed large in the light box to be appreciated. Amazing detail. The person standing nearby gives a sense of scale.
Regarding the content, I fear at some point the church lost its way as to who they come together to glorify. Very sad.
