    Trakai Castle

Located just a few kilometers / miles south-west of Vilnius, Lithuania is the Trakai Castle; on of the main castles of the Grand Duke's of Lithuania (Trakia was once the capital of Lithuania). Construction started in the late 1300s and it was completed in the early 1400s. The castle looks like it is surrounded by a giant moat, but is actually built on an island on a small lake.

This was the first day that was not completely overcast and raining since we got to Vilnius, so we got out to visit this wonderful little castle...

Yes, a nice capture. The castle looks famliar. Is it becase it is a favoured photo-spot, or is it the characteristic castle architecture in Lithuania?

I don't know John. It looks like a rather iconic castle sitting on an island. I had not heard of it before we started researching things to do in Lithuania.

Quite a photogenic edifice and well captured, Manfred. You took good advantage of nice lighting and an interesting sky. Nicely done.
