Nikon D5300 or D3400 to switch from Point & Shoot to dSLR?

If someone doing photography as an ammeter for the last 3 years with a point & shoot camera, wants to switch to a Nikon dSLR, what would be his/her right choice, Nikon D3400 or D5300? considering the budget around $500.

There won't be any noticeable difference in the quality of photos that the two are capable of producing. So it boils down to comparing features and deciding which ones add value to your particular needs. If you are fairly serious about photography I wouldn't worry about getting a camera to "grow into". Technology changes so fast that in a year or two you'll likely want something different anyway. You may also consider picking u a used camera of the next model up. Like a D7100.

Quality is the same and core functionality is the same - the 5xxx series have articulated screens which many find very useful. If you like the idea of that go for the higher model if not save money or spend it on a few choice accessories to go with the 3xxx body.

If you choose either make sure you get AFS lenses only otherwise you may be left manually focusing with AF lenses.
