    A tale of two castles

I'm pretty sure that people are getting tired on my castle posts. No promises that this will be the last one, but it might be...

Ivangorod in Russia and Narva in Estonia are separated from each other by around 150m / 165 yards of river flowing between them. With the Teutonic Knights in the Hermann Castle in Narva, the Russians wanted to keep them from moving into Russia and built Ivangorod Fortress for this purpose. The two castles face each other across the Narva River.

The border crossing between Estonia and Russia sits just below these two castles.

    2. Hermann Castle, Narva Estonia

    3. A shot showing both castles and the bridge that connects the two countries.

    4. Both castles taken from the wall of the Hermann Castle

If it is the last one (series of castle images), then you're going out on a big bang. Trying to show the relationship between the two castles and their respective positions was always going to be difficult. You have managed that very well.

I would have loved to get into Russia to shoot in order to get a different perspective on both , but the costs and logistics did not work out. The Russian Government does make travel to their country a rather complicated affair.

Not me. Keep them coming. As far as getting into Russia, good luck. The two times I went were on State Department visas obtained through a partnership/exchange program with two St.Petersburg hospitals. I'd love to go back there with my good camera.

Like probably many people I started to get more serious about photography because I was so disappointed in my vacation photos. I've enjoyed your castle photos in hopes that I'll take better castle photos next time I'm on vacation.

Please Manfred, don't make this your final series of castle shots.

    Thanks for sharing with us.
