Ivangorod in Russia and Narva in Estonia are separated from each other by around 150m / 165 yards of river flowing between them. With the Teutonic Knights in the Hermann Castle in Narva, the Russians wanted to keep them from moving into Russia and built Ivangorod Fortress for this purpose. The two castles face each other across the Narva River.
The border crossing between Estonia and Russia sits just below these two castles.
