    Linnahall

When the 1980 Olympic Games were held in Moscow, there was no venue for sailing in that city, so the sailing events were held in Tallinn, Estonia. As part of the construction in support of the Olympics, a vast sporting venue was built near Tallin's harbour. It was called the "V. I. Lenin Palace of Culture and Sport", but was later renamed to Linnahall.

Abandoned since 2008 /9, it looks pretty rough, but there are plans to renovate and reopen it in 2019. There are plenty of examples of this Brutalist architectural style all over the former Soviet States in the Baltics.

I used a fairly aggressive approach in PP to enhance the almost surreal look to the place.

I like the term, "Brutalist" to describe the old Soviet style of architecture. What I found fascinating was that the structures built during the Soviet era were all in shambles while the structures built during the czar's rule were still going strong.

The Brutalist style of architecture is definitely not unique to the former Soviet Union and can be found all around the world, including the USA and Canada, in buildings constructed from the 1940s through to the 1980s.

I don't know the reason this building shut down, but a smaller, similar structure in Vilnius, Lithuania was shut down because it did not meet modern fire safety regulations.
