Red Bull Last Stand

I got to see part of the woman's fixed gear bike racing competition which was held in Alamo plaza. There were 22 competitors and the last to cross the finish on each lap is eliminated until only one is left.

I used my Canon 24-105 and shot wide open (f4) at 70mm. My goal was to focus on a particular rider while blurring the background and/or other riders. I panned as much as possible to try and show the dynamics of the race. It was a lot of fun and got in some good practice.

I especially like number 2 with her expression and also the bike (born in a brewery)...😀❤️

Well done series, Sergio. That being said, I find that some of the crops are a bit too tight for my taste.

I find it better to be a bit wide in the shot and then crop in PP. It's a lot easier to do this than try to add material around the edges in post.

I too am partial to the second and found the quote on the bike funny/cute. Heck, with my penchant for a cold brew, I'd be proud to say I was born in a brewery.

All the crops were intentional. There was a lot of energy and tension at the race, and these woman were up to it. I wanted to convey some of this through the images, and I find tight crops can add this dimension. I especially wanted this on the more static shots like the turn and straightaway. The tighter framing adds tension and dynamic while putting the cyclists on a diagonal and eliminating some distracting elements.
