My first problem with the Olympus 12-100mm PRO lens.

We had a drop of rain the other night and the Green Tree-frog that lives in a down pipe (it works as a tremendous amplifier for his love songs) came out for a wander around the yard. So I grabbed the flash that came with the EM-1 and took this photo

I then turned my attention to a Black African beetle which I had to get get close to and found the slightly bulky lens blocked the light from the flash!

I wonder if the boss will think that is a good reason for me to buy a bigger and better flash unit?

Richard - it's not so much that the lens is the issue, but rather the built in flash.

In addition to it being blocked by longer lenses, it sits just above the lens, which is probably the worst location because the light is so unflattering where it hits the subject. Built in flash is fixed, so it cannot be turned so that it can be bounced off of walls or ceilings to give you nicer quality light.

The only reason I have ever used my built in flash is as a trigger for optically triggered off-camera slave flash, and even that is something I rarely use as I prefer to use radio triggers for that function.
